OPG

OPG, or Orthopantomogram, is a type of dental x-ray that produces a two-dimensional view of the face, including your teeth, gums and bones.

Please make sure you bring your referral letter and Medicare card (if you have one). The more information you can bring to the appointment, the better, so try and collate any other previous medical images or reports that relate to your current condition.

OPG scans don’t require any preparation.

You are required to keep still while the machine rotates around your head, but you will be assisted with a chin rest, a sterile bite piece and handles to hold onto while the machine rotates around your head.

The scan usually takes less than a minute.

The images will be provided to our radiologist for interpretation. The report is usually completed on the day of the examination and provided to your referring practitioner once reviewed and approved by our radiologist. You will need to see your referring doctor or dentist following the scan for the results.
