Injection Procedures

Cortisone Injections are procedures that deliver cortisone and local anaesthetic into an area of inflammation, most commonly in the spine, joint, and bursa. They are performed by our highly specialised radiologists under the guidance of our Low-Dose CT or Ultrasound machine.

After consultation with the specialist technical staff and radiologist, the procedure itself normally takes less than 10 minutes. There is usually little or no discomfort to the patient, and patients are discharged after a short observation period.

Patients should notice symptomatic relief after 12 days, and the duration of relief will vary depending on the degree of degenerative disease. Some patients will require more than one injection to assist in achieving optimal outcomes.

Please see the below list for the range of services available at our clinic for injections.

CT-guided facet joint injections can be an effective treatment for alleviating pain caused by facet joint arthritis or instability. Common symptoms in patients include hip and buttock pain, cramping leg pain, stiffness in the back, tenderness, and pain when extending the back. Research has shown that facet joint injections can provide significant pain relief to individuals suffering from facet joint arthritis.

CT-guided nerve root blocks can be a helpful treatment option for patients experiencing symptoms of sciatica. Selective nerve root injections have been shown to provide excellent pain relief for individuals with nerve root compression or impingement, offering significant improvement in reducing discomfort

A Fine Needle Aspiration and Biopsy (FNAB) procedure typically begins with an initial assessment scan to help plan and guide the procedure. After reviewing the images, the patient returns for the procedure, which usually takes less than 5 minutes to complete. The needle used is typically smaller than a blood test needle, ensuring a more comfortable experience for the patient.

CT-guided epidural injections can be an effective treatment for patients experiencing pain related to a herniated or degenerated disc, which often displays as a deep, midline ache that radiates to the buttocks and thighs. These patients may also exhibit reduced tolerance for sitting. CT-guided epidural injections have been shown to provide significant pain relief for individuals with discogenic symptoms, offering a high level of success in managing their discomfort.

Biopsies

Biopsy procedures where a sample of tissue is taken from a patient for examination and diagnosis of an illness or medical condition. Biopsies are important in the diagnosis of lesions.
